Global Review of Progress on SDGs

SESD is trying to make a framework in which all ideas related to Sustainable Development Goals can be fitted. This is first article in this direction. Please go through the article. All available data related to SDG indicators and COVID 19 is also uploaded. This data can be used by any one who is interested to write articles. There may be typing/calculation errors which can be removed once we move forward. Our idea is to do pairwise comparison of SDG related parameters. Your idea could be different. Let us work together. UNDG suggests national, regional, global and thematic reviews to measure the progress on SDGs. National reviews should be held regularly, analyse challenges & policy effectiveness, hold multi-stakeholder consultation & prepare national progress reports. Global reviews provide political leadership, connect SDG review with international programs, share experiences and promote unity among countries, organisations & issues. Regional reviews help share lessons and best practices, focuses on regional cooperation and connectivity & tackle regional concerns such as disasters, climate change, economic growth & job creation. Thematic reviews may shed light on specific implementation challenges of cross-cutting sectors like, health, environment, sustainability, human rights, poverty & education. The Guidelines to Support Country Reporting on the Sustainable Development Goals promotes two types of advocacy messages to make review process complete & successful:

  • Messages to engage different actors in preparing a report: These are aimed at building awareness of the Agenda 2030 & its goals.
  • Messages linked to findings presented in the review report: These evidence based messages will help build effective national policies & can be part of the debates and discussions & will contribute to the social, policy, behavioural & organizational changes in support of the SDGs.

Global Review by SESD: Society for Environment & Sustainable Development collected & compiled the available data on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals from Statistical Annex of United Nations Economic & Social Council, 2021. This data is further segregated into six themes:

Similarly primary data related to COVID 19 mortality and associated parameters were collected from “My World in Data” website from first day of COVID 19 case to 20th August, 2021 for all countries & based on country data average values were calculated for following regions:

1. World 2. Sub-Saharan Africa 3. Northern Africa  & Western Asia 4. Northern Africa 5. Western Asia 6. Central & Southern Asia 7. Central Asia 8. Southern Asia 9. Eastern & South Eastern Asia 10. Eastern Asia. 11. South Eastern Asia 12. Latin America & the Carribean 13. Oceania 14. Oceania only 15. Oceania Excl Australia & New Zeland 16. Europe & North America 17. Europe 18. North America 19.
